Great piece in the NYT. I think in the last 25 years or so we’ve seen the criminalization of many acts that were in the past handled as administrative sanctions.

You’re correct, the governments power to indict has very few restrictions. This is worrisome to many, considering the increased prevalence of technology as well as the NSA’s revelations. As Beria, Stalin’s sidekick once said, “Show me the man and I’ll find you the crime.” This doesn’t seem all that distant anymore.
